Roulette Inside and Outside Bets

There are two main types of bets in Roulette: inside bets and outside bets. Inside bets are placed on specific numbers or sets of numbers on the betting table. When a player makes an inside bet, they bet that the ball will land on their lucky number. There are several types of inside bets a player can make.

A “straight” or single bet is placed for a single number. The odds are most difficult on this bet, but its payout is the highest. Players can “split” the bet between two adjacent numbers. A “street” refers to a bet on three consecutive numbers. A “double street” involves two sets of three horizontal numbers. A “corner” bet can be placed at the intersection of four numbers. A “trio” is a three-number bet with at least one zero. The “basket” bet refers to a bet on 0-1-2-3. Finally, a “top line” bet is a bet on 0-00-1-2-3.

The chances of winning an inside bet are much lower, so the payout for inside bets are much higher. This makes inside bets risky but especially rewarding when a player trusts their lucky numbers. Straight bets, for example, pay 35 to 1. Split bets on two numbers pay 17 to 1. Street bets on three numbers pay 11 to 1. Double street bets pay 5 to 1. Corner bets pay 8-to-1. Top line bets pay 6-to-1.

Outside bets are placed on broader categories of numbers on the betting table. When a player makes an outside bet, they bet that the ball will land on a certain kind of number, not a specific one. Unlike inside bets, outside bets offer lower payouts and higher odds. It is easier to win by making outside bets, but the reward is not as high. There are several types of outside bets a player can make.

Players can bet that the ball will land on a certain colour: red or black. The betting table contains 18 red numbers and 18 black numbers, so the odds are fairly even on this bet. In addition to betting on colours, players can make even or odd bets. The numbers on the table are split between even and odd numbers; however, the zeroes are not considered even or odd. Players can also bet on low or high numbers. Low bets include the numbers 1-18, while high bets include the numbers 19-36. The “dozen” bet allows players to bet on 1 of 3 dozen sets of numbers on the betting table. In this case, the table is divided into 3 sets: 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36. The “column” bet refers to a bet on a column of 12 numbers. Finally, a “snake” bet is a bet made on the numbers: 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32 and 34.

The chances of winning an outside bet are much higher, so the payouts for outside bets are much lower. This makes outside bets very safe. Most outside bets pay an even 1-1. The “dozen” and “column” bets offer a better payout of 2-1.
